Mayor of the Wentworth Shire Melisa Hederics has praised the work of organisers of the 2017 Wentworth Junction Rally.

Cr Hederics, who opened the event on Saturday morning, said that the whole town had got behind the event and it was a fitting event to conduct as the Wentworth Port was once one of the busiest inland ports in Australia.

“It was most spectacular to have all the boats moored together along the riverfront for the opening ceremony and then watch them leave the bank one by one to take part in a flotilla on the river.”

It was one of four flotilla events which were programmed into the two day weekend event.

Cr Hederics said that by lunchtime Saturday the attendance figures had reached the total daily attendance for the whole day Saturday for the previous junction rally.

“The weather was kind for us Saturday and when the sun was out it kept people at the event and there was a lot to see.”

The Mayor was full of praise for the wonderful volunteer work put in by members of the Vintage Machinery Society of Sunraysia and the Rivers and Riverboat Historical and Preservation Society, alomg with many other community volunteers.

The event also included vintage machinery from paddleboats, classic riverboats, tractors, trucks, motor bikes, cars and steam engines.
