To allow construction on the new Ravenswood Interchange to continue, the Calder Alternative Highway will be closed to all Melbourne-bound traffic between Bendigo-Maldon Road and the Calder Highway from next Thursday August 17 2 for three months.

Vic Roads has indicated this closure will allow major work to continue on the western side of the Calder Highway to build the northern structure for the new elevated circular road and to build the new Calder Highway carriageways.

The Calder Alternative Highway will remain open Marong-bound. A signed detour will be in place for all drivers, including freight vehicles, via Lockwood Road (C277) and the Calder Highway.

The signed detour is expected to add up to 10 minutes travel time for southbound drivers.

Restrictions are in place for Oversize and Over mass vehicles accessing Lockwood Road and Calder Alternative Highway. Please refer to Victoria's Oversize/Overmass (OSOM) Network page for alternative routes (External link) depending on where you are travelling.

Please plan ahead and observe all on-road signage.

Access to residential properties located on the closed section of the Calder Alternative Highway will be maintained at all times.

As part of the works, the U-turn bay near Beilharz Road will also close permanently from August 17  2017.

This U-turn will not reopen to traffic.

To perform a U-turn safely, drivers and local residents wanting to travel southbound on the Calder Highway should use the U-turn bay located near Belvoir Park Road.
