An almond husk fire at Carwarp is under control, fire authorities have indicated.

The fire broke out around 6am on Tuesday and was attended by a number of local CFA Fire Brigades with a tanker and aerial pumper also despatched from Mildura Fire Brigade.

Along with fire units and graders from Olam Almonds plant the pile of almond husks which were smouldering were spread out over a wide area and gradually extinguished.

The two Mildura units returned to Mildura Fire Station mid-morning as the company believed it had the matter under control.

Five small bush fires in the Mallee Sunset Country are under control and another is contained.

But one bushfire about 30 kilometres south of Werrimull remains out of control in the Sunset Country.

The bushfire is reported to be travelling in a northerly direction towards Werrimull.

Smoke from this fire can be seen in the areas of Bambill, Karawinna, Tarrango, Werrimull and Merrinee.

 Smoke from the almond hull fire will be visible from nearby communities and roads.

At Lake Powell, near Robinvale a small bushfire was reported on Tuesday afternoon. It is being attended by Parks Victoria fire crews.

The bushfire is in the vicinity of Yungera Island near the Gearbox Loop track.
