Federal Member for Mallee, Andrew Broad MP alongside Minister for Regional Development, Territories and Local Government, the Hon Dr John McVeigh MP have officially opened Mildura’s new Patient Transfer Facility at the Mildura Regional Airport.
The Coalition Government approved the project in late March this year, and with works now complete the facility is ready to be used to transfer local patients to city centres via aerial medical services.
Dr McVeigh said the Coalition Government was pleased to be able to deliver the critical infrastructure the community needs.
Mr Broad said he worked closely with the Mildura Regional Airport Board and Airport staff to seek project approval with left over funding from the airport upgrade.
“I am very pleased to see this Patient Transfer Facility ready to be used by our community."
"It is a great outcome for regional patients living in a regional city who do need to travel to our bigger cities like Melbourne frequently for treatment and appointments,” Mr Broad said.
“Previously local patients were outside waiting in the elements, and we all know how uncomfortable it can be here in both summer and winter – this was a vital project that has now finally completed our regional airport upgrade.”
“Many people living in our region might not realise that there are often three to four Air Ambulance Victoria and Royal Flying Doctor Service flights per day leaving this airport, so to now be able to make their journey a little more comfortable and certainly safer on our end is a great outcome,” Mr Broad said.
