The Nationals Member for Mildura Peter Crisp and Shadow Minister for Disability Tim Bull have announced that an elected Liberal Nationals government will help expand respite services to better support people with disabilities, their carers and families in Sunraysia.
Under a Liberal Nationals government, $250,000 will be provided to Sunraysia Residential Services to help develop a short term respite accommodation complex.
Mr Crisp said the project would help fill an existing service gap for short term respite accommodation.
“Sunraysia Residential Services (SRS) is a great local provider and this funding will ensure people with disabilities and their support networks, can access this type of respite service in times of need,” Mr Crisp said.
“SRS has become a highly regarded and respected provider of services in Mildura and we are pleased to help fund this important facility.”
The Liberal Nationals will kick start this project, which will develop an overnight respite facility to support provision of a short term accommodation service.
Mr Bull said one of the biggest challenges facing people with disability and their families is the lack of respite facility places.
“Almost one in five Australians lives with a disability. More support is needed for these families and we’ve identified a need for greater support here in Mildura,” said Mr Bull.
“Increasing demand for respite services has put pressure on existing local services in Mildura. This project will provide much needed short term overnight respite to the Mildura community.”
Sunraysia Residential Services Inc. has been providing quality, individualised services and accommodation options for 42 years. SRS’s respite care programs include independent living programs, in-home respite care, personal care, holiday and recreation programs, with an emphasis on community inclusiveness.
