Mallee voters have been taking advantage of the Pre-Polling across the electorate with 21,446 votes having been cast as at the close of business on Saturday.

Pre-Polling opened in Horsham and Swan Hill on Monday last week with Maryborough opening on Saturday. With a bit under 20% of votes cast the coming week could see as high as 50 of votes cast before the official polling day of May 18th.

The outcome is very much up in the air, the "Donkey Vote" may assist the coalition, in the Council elections it got Cr Mark Eckel across the line and it could deliver thousands of votes to Liberal Candidate Serge Petrovich, which added to the large number of Liberal voters and disillusioned Nationals voting Liberal, could actually put him into a two cornered conservative fight with Nationals Anne Webster.

Jason Modica is facing a backlash with accusations of being a "Green" circulating Social Media where knockers have picked up the support he is receiving from the "Greens" Jane MacAllister and Helen Healy. Modica has also been overshadowed by a very strong performance by Rapanyup Farmer and former Yarriambiack Shire Mayor, Ray Kingston, at the recent Candidates forum at the Mildura Arts Centre. Kingston, quite clearly, was the standout Independent.

Kingston is a popular figure in the Wimmera area of the electorate being heavily involved in establishing the Victorian Silo Art Trail and has some serious runs on the board.

Mildura Rural City Council Citizen of the Year, Anne Webster, has had very strong backing from the Nationals and will appeal to those wanting to move away from the male dominated representation that the Mallee has previously had.

The outcome is hard to call, even for seasoned callers, but is may be a Liberal vs National fight with Kingston being the Independent outsider most likely to challenge.

What does all this mean for the people of the Mallee? We will find out on Staurday night.
