A red faced busdriver was alerted to his bus departing the Buronga Shell Service Station without him by one of the staff members who had noticed the bus rolling backwards out of the servo and across the Sturt Highway.

The bus cleared the highway without hitting any vehicles and fortunately hit a large gum tree rather than ploughing through nearby homes. The bus rolled out at around 7.30 am but retrieving the runaway bus took many hours with the Police being required to direct traffic while heavy haulage equipment was used to pull the bus clear.
