Mildura ruckman Craig Beggs has been found guilty of carelessly striking Robinvale defender Travis Bussell in the round 17 game played between Mildura and Robinvale-Euston.

But while given a one week penalty for the incident, Beggs will be able to –play in the Preliminary Final against Irymple on Saturday after the Tribunal suspended the sentence to the end of the 2017 season.

Beggs was represented by former Mildura player and policeman Craig Deckert in a hearing which lasted around two and half hours and was held at the Sunraysia Football Netball League headquarters in Lemon Avenue, Mildura.

A number of witnesses were called, along with officiating umpire Billy Stevens, who was near to the incident.

Video footage and stills were also viewed by the Tribunal which was hearing the report after Robinvale-Euston requested an independent investigation into the incident.

The League’s investigative officer then took evidence from players, spectators and club officials before presenting his report to the League that Beggs may have a case to answer regarding the incident which hospitalised Bussell.
