Mildura PGA golfer Wade Hooper is to play in the Murray Valley Pro-Am event at Bahram this weekend.
The ProAm, which has also been held at Mildura in previous years will not eventuate this year with the tournament beginning Wednesday at Murray Downs, then a further 18 hole event at Cohuna on Thursday and the 36 hole event at Barham at the weekend.
Hooper, who grew up in the district and returned last year to become a professional based at Mildura is currently playing on a plus two handicap.
“Last December I played in the qualifying school to get a tour card to get status for Pro-Am events and other main tournaments but didn’t get to the mark required,” he said.
“I am playing in the Barham Pro-Am to see where I am at in relation to others on the circuit and intend to have another crack to get a tour card when the qualifying school is held in December this year.”
Hooper is still coaching golf from the Mildura Golf Course but is not based there as a professional golfer as in past practices.
“It’s all changed these days – I am working on the promotion of golf tours of the district,” he said.
“I have a website and am promoting the tours in association with house boat hire – the golfers stay on the Houseboat and then stop near Riverside, near Mildura and at Coomealla to play a game of golf on the local courses.”
“I arrange for them to play at the courses and am available to give lessons or other assistance.”
Hooper said that the advertising and promotion of his golf tours are now underway and details are available at his website Wade Hooper Golf.
Hooper began playing golf locally when he was 10 years of age and when he moved to a mining job at Roxby Downs became involved in the renovation and re-designing of the local golf course where he also played and coached.
His golf tour business can be seen at https://www.wadehoopergolf.com/ or on Face Book at Wade Hooper Golf.
