Ahead of pre-season training Millewa League Club Meringur has announced the first of its signings for the 2018 football season.

Coach Toby Quirk Meeks said that club had secured the services of ruckman and forward Joey Wright, who previous had senior SFL experience at Merbein and Red Cliffs.

“We are very pleased to welcome Joey Wright as a big ruck/forward who comes across to us with more than 250 games experience with Merbein along with a stint at Red Cliff,” Quirk Meeks said.

Millewa League Club Bambill will have a different non-playing coach in season 2018.

Magpie veteran Jeremy Weinert, who is recovering from a complete knee reconstruction, will become non-playing coach, replacing Darren James, who coached for one season.

Weinert said that he had taken the role but  would not be chasing former team mates at Merbein because of his long involvement with the Magpies.

“We are working at getting a few players back to the Club and some other recruits – I believe we are going to be very competitive again in 2018,’ he said.

Werrimull coach Jordon Payne said his club was excited to announce two new signings and the return of another former player for the 2018 season.

“We are thrilled to announce that Dylan Scutcheon of Merbein will be joining our club for the 2018 season – he is a pacey wingman who plays with flare and skill,” Payne said.

“Derek Payne also joins us having spent the past two seasons at Merbein – he is a lightning fast forward and midfielder who  loves to tackle and take the game on with his run and carry.”

Payne also said that former player Marcus Nitchke, who Captained Werrimull in 2016, will return after having a year off to get married and build a home.”

“He will add great leadership, decision making and skill to our squad for 2018,” Payne said.
