Millewa Football Club Meringur has signed up AFL player Colin Sylvia as its assistant coach for the 2018 football season.

Recently re-appointed Meringur coach Toby Quirk Meeks said that the appointment was very exciting news for the Kangaroos and that the Club has welcomed with open arms his involvement in Millewa Football.

Sylvia began his senior football career with Sunraysia Football League Club Merbein, his home town, before going through the pathway to AFL football.

In 12 seasons of football at the top level Sylvia played 157 games with Melbourne and six games for Fremantle.

Since retiring from AFL football at the end of the 2014 football season he has played games with Merbein, Templestowe and Murrumbeena.

Sylvia is also a life member of the Melbourne Football Club.

Quirk Meeks said that Meringur will be his first club of choice away from the game for a whole season.

“He also has involvement in the local junior program “the Colin Sylvia Squad”,” Quirk Meeks said.

“The knowledge of the game and experience he can provide for 2018 at the Roos will take us to the next level,” he said.
