Nichols Point survived a challenge from Merbein South to win by 14 runs in the only close game of round 13 in the Sunraysia First Division competition on Saturday.

Veteran Ross Griffiths, who has played one third division and two fourth division matches this season, was promoted up to help out in the first division side and scored 107 with seven fours and a six.

The home side was eventually dismissed from 87.4 overs for 214, chasing a Nichols Point score of 6/225 from 60 overs.

The innings by Griffiths followed another  veteran effort the previous week by 62 year old Geoff John, who scored 107 in Third division and with Luke Collett (143) had a partnership of 243 for the third wicket.

For Nichols Point Kaushik Aphale, took his 50th  First Division wicket in three seasons for Nichols Point Cricket Club.and now sits behind Daniel Chapman, who has the highest first division haul for the Club with 57 wickets.

Aphale bowled a massive 22.4 overs with 9 maidens at an economy rate of 1 run per over after conceding just 23 runs.

He now has 50 wickets in his 32 appearances at The Point.

East hit up a score of 260 and sent Mildura Settlers in for a second time with Paddy Keogh hitting a nice 60.

Irymple attempted to get outright points over Coomealla Wentworth with Scott Steel hitting 77 from 40 balls stepping up the tempo once a first innings lead was obtained..

Batting for 40 overs to finish the days play Coomealla Wentworth was 5/86.

In the other game,  Mildura West after scoring 28 on a disgraceful track the previous week, finished with only 98 in its second dig.

West Indian Shacaya Thomas scored 15 not out as Workers Gol Gol lost 1/22 to win outright.
