Merbein Football/Netball Club President Toney Hurley said that the new netball court at Merbein's Kenny Park is match-ready and will be christened by Merbein and Ouyen United netballers today in Round one of the Sunraysia Football and Netball League 2018 season.

Mr Hurley said that the lighting and some landscaping is still to be done, but the court itself is ready for play and netball coach Chloe Lewis met with her players late yesterday to advise her team of the good news

This project is a joint initiative between Council, Merbein Football Netball Club, Sunraysia Football Netball League and the Victorian Government.

Mr Hurley also said that in the senior men’s game two young players will make their senior debut - 15yo Gus Rogers is selected to play on the half back flank with 16yo Christian Mazza to make his senior debut on the forward line.

Both these youngsters have had an exceptional pre-season campaign under new senior coach Jarrod Buckley and his assistant Joe Cavallo.

Mr Hurley said Jayden White, Damien Brereton and Zach Webb play their first senior games with the club and will add a lot to the Magpie team.

Ouyen United will have two of the three Farrer brothers playing against Merbein today – but star full forward Will Farrer will not be playing.

Josiah Farrer will play as an on-baller while Jono Farrer, who played one game against Wentworth District last year, will start the game on the interchange bench.
