The Mildura Heat basketball team will have its coach Dave Curran back on deck to take up his role this Saturday night when the Heat play again at home.

Curran was absent last Saturday night as he was completing his junior coaching agreement out of the district.

Over summer he has been in charge of the Mildura Heat boys program for Under 12 and under 14 players.

In the country Victorian titles at the weekend Curran’s junior boys made it to the semi-finals before going down to Pakenham.

Curran said he was very proud of the boy’s efforts and had made some great friends with the young players and their families.

On Saturday night in an exciting clash with the North East Bushrangers the Mildura Heat was coached by Jason Gordon with some assistance from former coach James Madigan, who is now coach of the Lady Heat.

The Bushrangers led for most of the first half but a strong second half effort resulted in a Mildura Heat victory 102 points to 93.

Calvin Henry threw 47 points in a stellar performance while his counterpart for the Bushrangers Richard Townsend-Gant, who only flew into Australia on Thursday and after one training run with his new club headed off to Mildura for Saturday’s game, shot 24 points with 11 rebounds.

In the Women’s game Mildura Lady Heat defeated Werribee Devils 72 to 63 with Vanessa Power scoring 15 points, Mikayla Delcastegne 14 and Alexis Gassion 12.

Next Saturday the Mildura Lady Heat will play the Camberwell Dragons at 6pm and at 8pm the Mildura Heat also play the Camberwell Dragons.

Both games will be broadcast on 1611AM Old Gold, also streaming on
