$7000 from the Victoria Racing Industry Fund Raceday Attraction Program is part of a joint funding package of more than $15,000 that will see a celebration of Italian culture held at the Mildura Harness Racing Club Meeting on Friday 12 October.
The night promises to be more than a night out at the trots with an Italian menu, decorations and traditional music.
Mildura Harness Racing Club Chief Executive Officer Tim Scala welcomes everyone down to the track on Friday for our Italian Night. "It will be a wonderful evening of harness racing and celebrating the colour, culture and tastes of Italy", Mr Scala said
Local musician Gino Garefa will provide live piano accordion music, while vocalist Simone Liuzzi will serenade racegoers in both Italian and English.
Italian-themed competitions will also provide prizes for all ages, while Italian-themed face painting will thrill the kids.
Five hundred complimentary tickets to the race night will be available through Mildura’s Da Vinci Italian Club, and 80 complimentary tickets will be distributed through local soccer clubs.
The club is contributing more than $7000 and local businesses will provide more than $1200 of in-kind support.
Mark Gepp MP, Member for Northern Victoria said “the Italian Night is a great new initiative celebrating harness racing and the vital contribution the Italian community has made to Mildura and the region.”
“Country racing helps drive tourism in the region and helps to generate jobs and boost our economy.”
