The Autumn Flower and Floral Design Show was a big hit with locals and visitors alike when doors opened to the public at 12.30 yesterday.

As expected the Masonic Centre in Irymple was a blaze of colour with roses, chrysanthemums, dahlias along with many other varieties of Autumn flowers complementing the 45 thoughtfully constructed floral designs.

Calling upon their creative skills, local floral designers put together Modern pedestal arrangements, very creative mobiles, some exciting “Jack in a Box’’ designs along with picturesque massed designs.

Baskets of roses, a new addition to the show this year, proved popular as did the singly staged roses of all types from miniatures to exhibition varieties. Dahlias, of several varieties, as well as Chrysanthemums of all shades are a perennial favourite for Mother’s Day and are a highlight of the show.

With the doors reopening at 10am today until 4 pm the Autumn Show will be an ideal venue to visit especially on Mother’s Day.

The Champion Dahlia has been won by Ken Knight, The Chrysanthemum Championship as well as the Champion Chrysanthemum and RHSV Silver Medal all won by Reg and Paulette Giles while Alison Whiting of Merbein collects the Rose Society Medal for Champion Rose with a beautiful cut of the popular apricot rose “Just Joey”.

To see the winning entries in all sections or pick up a bargain or two on the plant stall for you garden or to simply enjoy the show visit the annual Autumn show from 10am until 4pm today.
