Mildura Rural City Councillor and Broadcaster Max Thorburn says he is humbled and happy at the offers of help to cover his football and basketball commitments after falling ill again a fortnight ago.
He last broadcast football and basketball games on 1611AM on April 28 and on April 30 was admitted to Epworth Free Masons Hospital in East Melbourne.
He underwent surgery a week ago and began radiation treatment on Wednesday.
Former Red Cliffs coach Ben Ridley joined Anthony Parr as football commentators last Saturday and will take on the task at Mildura’s number three oval this Saturday.
The Thorburn family said that treatment over the next three to four weeks would be crucial but they were extremely hopeful that his recovery will allow him to complete his current work arrangement at 1611AM until sometime in 2019.
Max Thorburn spent three month’s hospitalisation at Epworth in the year 2016.
He first covered SFL Football for Radio in 1966.
