The Sunraysia Football Netball League Awards night was held last night at the Mildura Workingman's Club, September 6.  Amongst the awards given at the presentation was the Best & Fairest of the senior football and netball grades.

A prestigious Life Membership of the Sunraysia Football Netball League was also awarded on the night to local broadcaster and long time supporter of local sport, Max Thorburn.  Due to poor health, Mr Thorburn was unable to be present to receive the award with the prestigious honour accepted on his behalf by Jo Rodda who has been assisting with the local broadcasts in Max's absence.

Mr Thorburn has been hospitalised in Melbourne for the previous six weeks and watched the award presentation via social media.

Mr Thorburn said "I'm extremely humbled at receiving this most cherished award and was disappointed that I was unable to be there in Mildura with my Sunraysia Football and Netball friends to share the moment with everyone.  I have also been disappointed this year that my involvement has been limited because of illness and I am hoping that doctors are able to overcome the problem and allow me to come back and again serve the local football and netball community for at least a couple more years."

"I thank my close friends who have maintained the device to the football public this year.  I am overwhelmed at the generosity of the Board of the Sunraysia Football and Netball League to give me a life membership.  God willing I hope to see you all in Mildura again soon," Mr Thorburn said
